New products allow CSPs to manage risk in networks in a constantly changing environment
Lisbon, Portugal, 22 February 2012 – WeDo Technologies, a worldwide leader in revenue and business assurance, today announced that it has been successfully granted a British and European patent (UK Patent No. 0504772 and European Patent No. 06351221.5) for a product that enables Communication Service Providers (CSPs) to manage risk, fraud, security, content control and legal interception entitled “Communication System with Distributed Risk Management Solution (DRMS)”. This solution is aiming to change the way risk management can be undertaken in networks as risk control begins to migrate to the terminal device with the changing nature of the industry.
Before the explosion of Internet Protocol (IP) based communication devices, such as new generation smartphones, CSPs had just a few channels to monitor fraud and revenue assurance issues. Many systems used by CSPs were based on centralised systems which use information such as SMS, GPRS and telecommunication switches to collect, process, and send data to a central risk system for pattern and trend analysis and the alerting of issues.
Now as network equipment begins to change from switches to IP based core networks (3G, 4G) and “end to end” IP services to multiple devices, CSPs are faced with multiple device IDs across many different channels. As a result, information has begun to move away from centralised systems to the end points such as a smartphone or the cloud for example. WeDo Technologies’ patent, DRMS, permits data to be collected that could not otherwise be collected by a central system. The data gathered for analysis is amassed on a customer-by-customer basis enabling CSPs to focus on the highest risk consumers, minimising the risk control related data that needs to be passed in the network and making risk detection smarter.
WeDo Technologies brings present control systems into the digital IP age allowing CSPs to monitor fraud and revenue assurance, not just via SMS and Voice, but also over IP and cloud, giving network operators full terminal generated sessions and service data for risk management. Benefits of this include monitoring that couldn’t be done by a centralised system, such as a peer to peer service for finance and application driven services where fraud and risk may occur for operators.
Simon Collins, Director of Praesidium, WeDo Technologies’ business consulting division, says “CSPs are the face of telecommunication. They bear the brunt when a problem occurs, even if the error doesn’t lie with them. CSPs will have to manage this changing environment to avoid consumer backlash and damage to their brand. This patent and the associated solutions give CSPs the visibility to see what is really happening in the customer terminal”.
